I have written the seller and have not had a response from them. The customer service department at Amazon has been wonderful, however, and i intend to seek their assistance once again. Upon investigating the appropriate book for my purpose i had researched all the listings in amazon and settled on this specific book. It is disappointing. ATK. I was excited about learning and started to roll up my sleeves to begin but the book was all geared up for the PC and I have a MAC. Nowhere on the listing was any information telling the 'buyer' this book was geared for a PC.
I immediately wrote the person who sold me the book and to date they have not had the courtesy to respond. Today is the 26th and I have not heard from the seller at all. I cannot really review the book or CD that came with it as the write up did not say that this was for Pc's only. Two weeks later I called Amazon after writing a 2nd letter to the seller and was told to call back on the 21st as the seller should have responded by then. So needless to say I an upset and will as directed by Amazon contact them later today for a solution. I have a Mac. I wrongly assumed that since there is a newer edition of Photo Elements out only for Pc's that this book would be for the Mac.
Macintosh users should be advised that there are some significant differences between the Windows and Macintosh versions and those are not dealt with in this book. The description for this item should state that the book and the enclosed CD-ROM are aimed at users with the Windows-based version of Photoshop Elements 6. (Although if you can read the fine print in the lower left corner of the cover you will be able to see that information).
all progams are written for a progammer not a photographer. The disk is a valuable asset also. I will not review this book as a critic but as a beginning digital photographer. This book does not make using Photoshop a snap but it stops the headache that you get trying to guess what they are talking about. Buy it you might like a good program even more. Coming from a film background you need a book as this to navigate this program. The instructions that come with almost.
I would recommend finding some other manual for beginning use of Elements 6. Also, it has a quite limited index. I found this book to be as user-UNfriendly as the Elements 6 program itself. After spending hours, indeed a couple of days, reviewing the book, and using the CD, I still had great difficulty navigating Elements 6 for basic organizing.
